Does anyone still make minivans?

Minivans remain a small sliver of the automotive market. There are only five models of minivan for sale in the U.S. in the 2021 model year – the Chrysler Pacifica, Chrysler Voyager, Honda Odyssey, Kia Carnival, and Toyota Sienna.

Are SUVS the new minivan?

Driving By Numbers: The big family SUV is officially the modern minivan.

Is an MPV a minivan?

An MPV functions very similar to a minivan, and the main difference is the vehicle’s styling. The MPV is more of an evolution of the minivan rather than an entirely different type of vehicle. Kia didn’t create the MPV concept, but the Carnival is perhaps the most significant nameplate to be branded as such.

Is a minivan considered a car?

The minivan is a personal vehicle that is flexible in its configuration of riders or cargo but still drives like a car. Most minivans have front-wheel drive, built on a car platform to handle like a car while driving. They also manage gas consumption like a car.

Are minivans coming back?

They have been seen as so uncool in the past that they nearly became extinct. But now, minivans are making a comeback — and they are actually becoming quite popular. In fact, there’s been so much demand that minivans sold for, on average, 8\% above sticker price last month, according to a recent Cox Automotive report.

Why is MPV better?

They have a more streamlined front bumper, compared to an SUV. This reduces the aerodynamic drag or air resistance. But they have a much boxier rear, to accommodate more people than say, a hatchback. MPVs are bigger than hatchbacks but sometimes, some MPVs are smaller than SUVs.

What happened to minivans?

Minivan sales were down considerably in 2019. The segment saw roughly 73,000 fewer sales compared with 2018. That’s a drop of about 15 percent. And this is far from the first year that has happened.
