Until 2010, fewer than 800 people hiked to Trolltunga each year. In 2016 more than 80,000 people hiked the 27-kilometre (17 mi) round-trip from the village of Skjeggedal, making it one of Norway’s most popular hikes….

How many hours hike to Trolltunga?

The trail to Trolltunga, situated at 1180 metres, is signposted. From the main trailhead at P2 in Skjeggedal, the round-trip hike is 28 km with an ascent of almost 800 metres. The estimated hiking time is 8–12 hours.

Can you drive to Trolltunga?

Driving is the easiest and most efficient way to reach Trollunga from Bergen with a travel time of 4 hours. The route covers a distance of 99 miles (159km) and passes by the North Sea and the Hardangerfjord. There are toll roads and a ferry crossing near the end of the journey.

That is possible to do, but it will be a very long, tiring day, and I don’t recommend it. The hike to Trolltunga can take 12 hours (although if you take the shuttle to and from the upper parking lot you can save about 3 hours). Add in 6 hours of driving for the day and that’s a very long day.

Parking fee: NOK 600 per day. Road toll: Vehicles that park at P3 Mågelitopp must also pay the road toll for the Skjeggedalsvegen road (from P1 Tysssedal to P2 Skjeggedal). Pay NOK 200 at P2 Skjeggedal. If weather permits, and it is not snow up to P3 Mågelitopp, parking will open at P3 Mågelitopp early in June.

Trolltunga Adventures also has a prepared campsite situated on the high mountain. Their Trolltunga Classic adventure includes all camping gear, and hearty meals are provided, so you don’t have to haul any of this yourself. There are many advantages to joining a guided hike and adventure.

There is no fee to hike Trolltunga. However, if you have a car, you will have to pay for parking. Use the bathroom in the car park before starting the hike. This is your only chance to use a toilet until you get back to the parking lot. Between June 15 and September 15 you do not need a guide to do this hike.
