What are the rules for dorms in college?
Here are some common restrictions when living in a college dorm.
- Fire Hazards. The degree to which these are restricted varies, but most dorms will outlaw candles, hot plates, and anything with a burner on it — sadly, this means most coffee machines, too.
- Quiet Hours.
- Pets.
- Dorm Meetings.
- Holes in Walls.
- Visitors.
- Substances.
Can I live in student accommodation at 17?
Most student residences have an age restriction of 18 years old and above. However, in some cases we are able to find placements for students who are 16 or 17 years old. We will also require a letter from your parents stating they are happy for you to live alone in an adult student residence.
Do you stay in the same dorm all 4 years?
It does indeed depend on the culture of the university, the availability and cost of nearby housing, and whether the university allows them to stay in the dorms for all four years (some universities don’t).
What is not allowed in a dorm room?
Banned Electronics in College Dorms String lights, such as miniature Christmas lights. Extension cords. Cooking appliances, such as hot plates and toaster ovens. Air conditioners or space heaters.
Can you have friends over at your dorm?
At the Halls of Residence guests are welcome to stay overnight, provided it is for a limited time and you complete a Request for Overnight Guest form.

Are guys allowed in girl dorms?
While each dorm has its own set of rules, generally, guys are allowed in girl dorms, as long as they do not stay overnight. In some cases, you can request permission to have someone of the opposite gender stay overnight, but this is up to the RA.
Can I bring a TV to my dorm?
Yes, you or your roommate will need to bring a TV. Remember, dorm rooms are relatively small. We typically encourage roommates to work together so that one brings the TV and the other brings the refrigerator and microwave.
Can my boyfriend stay at my dorm?
Colleges have rules set for how long a guest can stay with you. If you’re planning to invite your lover over, be sure to notify your roomie if you’re sharing the dorm room. As long as you’re not causing any inconvenience to anyone, guests can stay for that specified time period.
When can I pick my dorms and room?
If you apply by May 1 (for the fall), you will be able to pick your dorm and room (based on availability) starting in early summer, based on your application date. If you apply after May 1, you will provide your 5-10 dorm preferences on your housing application and you will be assigned to a dorm by Housing & Residential Life in early-August.
Is housing available on campus during the winter break?

How do I check-out of my student’s dorms?
If a student is moving out and needs to check-out outside of the RA duty hours they will need to make arrangements ahead of time with the RD or AC in their building. Student also have the option to complete and Express Check Out Form and return it to the Residence Life and Housing office in 100 DiNardo Hall.
Can I live on campus as a first year student?
The University has deemed that students attending college for the first time should be given as much opportunity to live on campus as possible. The University cannot house all the freshmen who would want to live on campus, therefore, you must be accepted by the University as early as possible so that you may apply for housing in a timely manner.
