What is the Christian view of Heaven and Hell?

Heaven and Hell in Christian Thought. Behind the various Christian ideas about heaven and hell lies the more basic belief that our lives extend beyond the grave (see the entry on afterlife). For suppose that our lives do not extend beyond the grave.

Do people go to heaven when they die?

Conversely, several biblical passages indicate that people who have trusted in Jesus Christ do not go to heaven when they die – at least, not immediately. For example, Luke 16:19-31 records the anecdotal story that Jesus Christ told about a rich man and a beggar named Lazarus.

What do Catholics believe about Heaven?

Additionally, Roman Catholics believe in a place called Purgatory, where sins are punished and where a person’s soul undergoes purification before it can go to Heaven. In Heaven, Christians may be happy and surrounded by their favourite things.

What happens to Christians after they die?

These scriptures suggest that, after believers die, they “rest” or “sleep” in their grave. On the other hand, other scriptures indicate that after Christians die, they will not spend time in their grave, in a sleeplike state or otherwise, but instead will immediately go to be with Jesus Christ.

Are Heaven and Hell desired compensations for earthly lives?

According to a relatively common view in the wider Christian culture, heaven and hell are essentially deserved compensations for the kind of earthly lives we live.

Is hell eternal or temporary?

Hell is as eternal as heaven. Jude emphasises this when he writes of “everlasting chains… eternal fire… darkness forever” (Jude 1:6-7,13). The judgment scene in Revelation 20:10,15 pictures the torment of the wicked as being “for ever and ever”.

What will happen to the Wicked in Hell?

The wicked in hell will suffer “everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord” (2Thessalonians 1:8-9). Some interpret this to mean that the unsaved will cease to exist, their souls will be destroyed, and they’ll never be raised again in all eternity.

Are there people who have been to Heaven?

Yes, there are, and they’re called survivors. Which survivor you ask will largely determine what sort of answer you’re going to get. Many of these people who have had NDEs (Near Death Experiences) have seen heaven and felt its inviting glory. Others, in terrifying stories, claim they’ve been to hell and back.

Can people go to Heaven during near-death experiences?

There are hundreds of accounts of people who have died and were revived to then claim to have seen heaven or hell during their near-death experiences. The book “Heaven is for Real” is one perfect example of these instances.

Is “Heaven is for real” a hoax?

The book “Heaven is for Real” is one perfect example of these instances. While some claims have turned out to be complete hoaxes, other survivors of near-death experiences share detailed “afterlife” stories that are rather compelling. 1. Colton Burpo

Is something objective or objective evil?

Relative to our desired end, something is either objectively good or objectively evil. Once we have defined our end, we can define, objectively, good, evil, and morality (which I define as: the application of good and evil).

Does God say that murder is evil?

God saying that murder is evil does not make murder objectively evil. Nor does the majority of a society saying taxation is good make taxation good. It only means that in God’s opinion, murder is evil, and in the majority of society’s opinion, taxation is good.

Did good exist before evil?

Thus evil did not always exist, nor did it ever exist independently of good. By contrast, good has always existed, and did so on its own before evil ever came. Evil is historic and transitory, but good is eternal and perpetual. Good transcends evil.
