Except the rote memorization won’t make students better learners. The critical thinking skills needed in college-level courses aren’t needed for most AP classes. And creativity in AP classes is practically nonexistent. For many students, a schedule packed with Advanced Placement classes is a mark of intelligence.

An extra year of schooling can noticeably increase a person’s IQ, research suggests. Researchers have found that an extra year of schooling leads to a small but noticeable increase in intelligence scores. The study provides the strongest evidence yet that education raises intelligence test scores.

AP classes, however, are more challenging than honors classes. These courses cover information, teach skills and give assignments that correspond to college classes.
