Should you replace a crank pulley bolt?
a ront crank bolt would only lose the hamonic balancer which will damage stuff front of the engine like fan, pulleys, radiator but in itself the engine should be fine. but if you are constantly absuing an engine that will be the source of the engine damagae and premature wear and/or failure.
What does the crankshaft bolt do?
Function. A crankshaft pulley powers components on the crankshaft. Crankshaft pulleys transmit mechanical power and torque, or the force of motion, through the pulley system to additional car elements, such as the power steering pump and alternator.
Can you reuse crank bolts?
From the thread: Not reusable. It’s a 1 time stretch bolt.
How much does it cost to change a crankshaft pulley?
The crankshaft pulley replacement cost is between $350 and $400, depending on the car model and labor costs. You could spend $200 to $240 for a new crankshaft pulley, plus about $150 for labor. If you purchase an aftermarket crankshaft pulley, you could save yourself a little money.
Can I reuse main bearings?
if the bearings aren’t scored or overheated, then they can be reused, but they are so cheap you might as well get new ones.
Can I reuse my harmonic balancer?
It is reusable. Just use a little loctite and get it as tight as you can.
What should I do if my crankshaft pulley bolt is loose?
If you cannot get the crankshaft pulley bolt loose, remove your engine and take it to the shop. For a more specialized approach, take it to an import car repair shop.
How to choose the right crankshaft material?
The selection of materials and manufacturing methods depend on the type of engine and the geometry and design of the crankshaft. It is necessary to use high strength materials to ensure a long operational life.
What are the advantages of cast iron crankshafts?
Cast iron crankshafts are cheaper and less time consuming to manufacture than those made from forged steel. Metal may be more economically used in the casting process when the design of the crankshaft becomes more complex. The wear resistance of the main and crankpin bearings increases due to the presence of graphite in cast iron.
